During neck lift surgery you will be put under general anaesthetic. The surgeon will make incisions around or being the ears and hairline and any excess tissue may be removed to help create the desired look. Skin will be pulled and tightened upwards to create a smooth appearance and stitched up. The procedure will take 1-3 hours and may take longer if performed alongside a facelift or brow lift.
Following the surgery, you will be required to wear dressings or compression garments around your neck to help reduce bruising and swelling. You may only be required to keep the dressings on for the first few days. Any stitches may be removed after the first week. You will experience some numbness and your face and neck may feel tender and swollen. This is completely normal and should start to return back to normal after the first few weeks. You will be able to treat the pain with painkillers and cold compressions.
During recovery, it is best to avoid strenuous activities including heavy lifting and have someone help you with your normal daily activities for the first 2 weeks. It is best to take some time off work to allow your results to heal as you will need to take things a lot slower.
Full recovery can take up to 6-9 months to see the fully healed results. The first 6 weeks may be the hardest however, you should be able to start returning to normal activities between 4-6 weeks. For the full 6-9 months you should still be wary of your healing as you will still need to get used to it.
