What is Breast Lift Surgery?

Reasons for Breast Lift Surgery
Breast Lift surgery is a very popular procedure. Many people choose to undergo the cosmetic procedure due to:
- Confidence issues
- Age
- Wanting a more youthful appearance
- changes to breasts due to pregnancy and breastfeeding
Breast Lifts can also help to alleviate any pain in the neck and back due to the weight of the breast and the sagging of them which puts pressure on your back. A breast lift will help to lift the breasts and reduce the amount of discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions
When choosing a cosmetic procedure, it is important to research the treatment and ensure the treatment is done by a professional and is medically qualified. Please read the most frequently asked questions many patients have when choosing a procedure.
Mastopexy surgery can take up to 2 hours to be performed and you will likely be under general anaesthetic. During the procedure incisions will be made and excess skin will be removed, and breast tissue will be reshaped. Once reshaped your nipple will be lifted higher to fit the new breast size and shape.
The type of incision depends on what it best for your situation and results. Incisions can be made around the areola or may include incisions vertically or horizontally across the breast crease.
Following breast lift surgery, you will likely remain in hospital overnight. The breasts will be swollen, and tender following the surgery and will remain swollen during the first few weeks of recovery. Over time the numbness and tenderness will subside as they begin to heal.
You will be advised to take painkillers to help manage the pain. During recovery you should wear compression garments to help with the swelling and you should avoid any strenuous activities including heavy lifting.
Recovery is expected to take up to 6 weeks before you will feel comfortable returning to most daily activities. Full results can take up to 6 months to be seen but may take longer.
Breast Lift Surgery is a safe procedure and safe to perform when performed by a registered medical professional. There are always risks with plastic surgery which is why it is important to make your surgeon aware of any health conditions. Not following proper aftercare is a big risk as you may slow down the healing process.
During a consultation you will be informed of all the risks associated with the surgery and what should look out for during the recovery process. Common side effects include swelling inside the breast, change in breast sensation, infection and excess bleeding and numbness or pain.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, repositions the nipple and reshapes the breast so it sits higher and firmer on the chest. It does not significantly change breast size. If a patient wants more volume, a lift can be combined with implants or fat transfer, but the lift itself focuses on contour and position rather than size.
Good candidates are generally in good overall health, have sagging breasts due to aging, pregnancy, weight changes, or genetics, and are committed to the recovery process. Ideal candidates have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve and understand that this is a reshaping procedure, not a size increase by itself.
Changes in nipple sensation can occur after a breast lift; some patients experience temporary changes, and in rare cases these can be permanent. A breast lift can also affect breastfeeding ability, though many patients are still able to breastfeed afterward. It’s important to discuss these possibilities during your consultation.
