Reasons for breast augmentation surgery
Patients choose breast augmentation surgery for many different personal and aesthetic reasons.
For some, it’s about enhancing breast volume and creating a more proportionate silhouette. For others, it’s about restoring confidence, improving symmetry, or regaining fullness that may have changed over time due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, or weight loss.
Breast augmentation may help patients:
- Enhance breast size and fullness
- Improve overall body proportions
- Boost self-confidence and body image
- Create better breast symmetry
- Restore lost volume after pregnancy or weight loss
- Correct or revise previous breast augmentation results
Loss of volume and breast sagging are among the most common concerns patients experience over time. In some cases, patients may benefit more from a breast lift procedure if their primary goal is to improve breast position and shape rather than increase size.
During your consultation, Dr. Bashir will assess your anatomy, discuss your goals, and recommend the most appropriate surgical approach to achieve a natural and balanced result.

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions patients have when considering breast augmentation surgery.
During breast augmentation surgery, you will be placed under general anaesthetic whilst the surgeon works to make incisions. Depending on the desired look, the incisions may be done either under the breast, around the areola, or under the armpit.
Once the incision is made the breast implants, either silicone gel implants or saline implants will be placed either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. This will be decided during a consultation to ensure you receive the desired results. Once the implants are inserted the incisions will be closed.
Following breast augmentation surgery, you will be required to wear compression garments to ensure proper healing and help with swelling. It is completely normal to experience swelling and tenderness during recovery.
Pain killers will help to ease the mild discomfort. It is best to avoid any strenuous activity during the first few weeks due to the risk of rupturing the implants. You should take time off work and limit daily activities that may cause strain.
Depending on the type of procedure and if you have had multiple cosmetic surgery procedures at the same time, it is highly likely you will be able to return home the same day although there is still a probability you may need to stay in hospital for a few days. This will be discussed during your consultation.
Full recovery can take up to 3 months. In the first few weeks, you may need to limit strenuous activities, especially during the first few weeks. It is best to avoid driving for the first few weeks and may require time off from work for the first two weeks.
All surgeries carry risks however, breast enlargement surgery is completely safe especially when performed by an expert and qualified plastic surgeon. When considering breast surgery you should ask as many questions as possible during the consultation to help put you at ease and to help decide if it is the right procedure for you. Dr. Bashir will help you to understand the procedure, recovery, and any risks to look out for.
Common risks and complications to look out for:
- Changes in sensitivity to the nipple
- Infections and skin reactions
- Change in shape i.e folds and ripples
- Capsular contracture
If you are concerned about the risks, you should book a consultation with Dr. Bashir to find out how you can minimize complications.
Patients often want to know what makes someone a good candidate. A good candidate is generally in good health, at a stable weight, and has realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve. Age, medical history, smoking status, and future pregnancy plans all play a role in determining eligibility.
Choosing implant size is more than picking a cup letter. It involves evaluating chest width, existing breast tissue, body proportions, and personal aesthetic goals. Many surgeons use tools like sizers or 3D imaging to help patients visualize how different sizes will look.
There are several incision options such as under the breast fold, around the areola, or in the armpit. Each has benefits and trade-offs in terms of healing and scar visibility. Scars are expected with any implant surgery, but they typically fade over time and can be placed in discreet locations.
Implants can be placed above the chest muscle (subglandular) or below it (submuscular). Placement affects recovery, feel, and how the implant looks. Dr. Bashir will recommend placement based on natural breast tissue, implant size, and desired results.
Most women with implants can breastfeed, but there is a small risk that surgery could affect milk production or sensation. The impact varies by technique and individual anatomy, so patients planning future pregnancies should discuss this with their surgeon.
